Mark Eliyahu was born in Dagestan in 1982, the son of Piris Eliyahu, a world-renowned tar master, composer, arranger and musicologist. He has spent his entire life with music since birth. Eliyahu, who built a strong bond with instruments like violin and piano, discovered the baglama at the age of 12-13, and at 16 he travelled to Greece to learn baglama and took lessons from Ross Daly.
Whilst learning about Turkish music from his teacher, he heard the sound of the kamanche on a CD one morning and was very impressed by the sound. At the age of 17, he travelled to Azerbaijan to learn kamanche, where he learned Persian-Azerbaijani music from his master Adalet Vazirov.
Mark Eliyahu combines ancient instruments such as the kamanche and tar with modern and futuristic electronics and takes you on a deep sound journey.
