Theodort explores new sounds and draws on the experience of a first successful attempt: the title “Atisuba” (see you tomorrow, in the Dendi dialect of Benin) released during the summer of 2022. This Afrobeats track, produced swaying, is the basis of what will forge the musical identity of “Imad”: a music mix of Afropop, Amapiano (South African House style) Afro-gospel and Fuji – musical genre born in the 1960s within the Yoruba community of Nigeria.
Theodort experiments. He sings on “BB” which he quickly considers as the intro to his album. He invents gimmicks like “Wayeh” or “Toko dombi” which give him the titles and choruses of two songs. Throughout 2023, he thinks of music as a central activity in his life and works on more personal pieces; carried by this desire which has not left him since the first scribbled comics: “to tell stories. » As this first album takes shape, a vision emerges. We hear it on the outro of this album. Between the rapped lines, the sung passages, the piano, the guitar, the choirs and this sweet melody: “When we say we’re going to do it, we really do it. » Theodort appears on 15 tracks in his first album “Imad”. Iribin nãte*. *We really did it, in dendi.
