She had never really left them. Vendredi sur Mer marks a return to her roots, to the landscapes where she grew up. A quest for the essential for a woman who spent her childhood surrounded by the Swiss mountains, developing her artistic senses. Charline (in the city) quickly turned to drawing, writing and photography to kill boredom. It was in the latter field that she turned professional, and held her first exhibition. When the time came to imagine the soundtrack that could accompany her photos, she set about creating a song, with the help of a producer friend. Surprise, surprise: she liked it, and Vendredi sur Mer was born. A colourful character, he enabled the young woman to fulfil her desire to perform on stage, as well as unveiling Premiers émois in 2019, a critically and commercially successful debut album that reminds anyone who listens of the carefree days of her teenage years, thanks to the sung-spoken style that was the artist’s DNA at the time.

‘I can’t write about what I haven’t experienced,’ she often says. With Métamorphose, her second album released in 2022, Vendredi sur Mer has asserted herself, and set off in search of a new sonic identity to tell the story of the anger that drives her. To do so, she ventured towards darker shores, inspired by more raw genres, including techno. It was here that one of the most important encounters of her life took place – with Sam Tiba (ex-member of the Club Cheval quartet, he regularly collaborates with the French rap scene, including Zola, 13 Block and Georgio), who has since become her regular producer and one of her best friends. With Métamorphose, Vendredi sur Mer marks a turning point in his approach to music, allowing himself to sing more and cultivating his international success. The tour took her all over the world, from the UK to the Netherlands and Mexico. ‘I realised that on each trip, what I missed wasn’t my home in Paris. It was where I’d grown up’, she smiles.
