The Selecter celebrates 45 years of ‘Too Much Pressure’ on 17 October at La Madeleine, Brussels

Iconic 2-Tone and ska band The Selecter, featuring frontwoman Pauline Black OBE, is coming to La Madeleine in Brussels on 17 October. The band is celebrating the 45th anniversary of their debut album ‘Too Much Pressure’ with a series of performances across the UK and Europe, including this highly anticipated Belgian stop. Tickets go on sale from Wednesday 28 May at 10am via greenhousetalent.com.

One of the few women in the original 2-Tone movement, Pauline Black is hailed worldwide as the Queen of Ska. The Selecter garnered international fame with classics like ‘Three Minute Hero’, ‘Missing Words’, ‘On My Radio’ and, of course, ‘Too Much Pressure’. Four decades later, the band proves that their mix of rousing rhythms, raw energy and their critical, social lyrics is as relevant as ever.

The documentary Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story (2024), directed by Jane Mingay, tells the personal and musical life story of Pauline Black. Based on her memoir Black by Design, the documentary shows how she grew up in an adoptive family, experienced racism and found her voice in Coventry’s 2-Tone movement. With archive footage, interviews and contributions from the likes of Don Letts and Damon Albarn, it paints a powerful portrait of an icon who managed to unite music and activism. That same energy still resonates in The Selecter.

The Brussels show promises to be an evening of timeless classics, raw ska spirit and tribute to 2-Tone’s roots. Tickets are on sale from Wednesday 28 May at 10am via greenhousetalent.com.
